CZECH THE TRENDS is a series of economic discussions given by outstanding personalities who are specialists in their field. The series encompasses topics including, but not confined to, economic, financial market, business, trade and technological developments in the Czech Republic, the EU and on the international scene.
Pavel Kohout (born 1967) is a Czech economist and financial writer. He originally wanted to be a game developer; however, when he wrote a stock market speculation game in 1992 he was inadvertently drawn into the world of finance. In 2007 he co-founded Partners Financial Services and sits on its board. Previous to that, he worked for several corporations including INGand PPF. In 2009 he was appointed to the Czech government’s National Economic Advisory Board where he served until 2013.
Pavel is well known in the Czech Republic due to the series of articles and the popular books he has written. His recent books include Dramas and Farces of Economics (2011) co-written with the playwright and writer of the same name, Pavel Kohout; Finance Beyond the Crisis (three editions, 2009-2011); Investment strategy for the Third Millenium (seven editions, 1999-2013) and; Tobias and the World of Finance: Financial Literacy for Kids (a textbook to be published in 2015).Being formed by two decades in finance, Pavel Kohout enjoys sarcastic humour. So his most recent book The Devil’s Dictionary of Economics & Finance, published in late 2014, is a richly illustrated book which allows City bankers to laugh at academic economists, academics to laugh at bankers and the general public to laugh at finance across the board. Plus, as a bonus, the reader learns useful things such as how to prevent wars, how to profit from inflation and what to do about fat cats.
