Dear CBCC members and friends,
Around this time, we would meet and celebrate the year’s end with the CBCC’s Annual Dinner. This was not meant to be, but we look forward to hopefully getting together again in 2021.
Despite the current circumstances, we decided to bring the Czech community in the UK together, do good and help others during Christmas. In partnership with the Czech Embassy in London, we are organising a Christmas Charity Fundraiser to help the Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and specifically the children that will need to stay there during the Christmas time.
We have selected GOSH thanks to the Czech connection in the hospital, Professor Jan Marek, Head of Paediatric Cardiology at GOSH. Every year, some children are too sick to spend Christmas at home. GOSH is seeking help in bringing Christmas to the hospital and making it feel like a home away from home for those children and their families. The funds will allow families to stay together funding one night’s stay in a family accommodation, a fun day of play, end-of-treatment gifts, etc.
Professor Marek kindly agreed to be the patron of this fundraiser together with Mrs. Sabrina Sečková, wife of the Czech Ambassador to the Court of St. James’s.
We have approached famous Czechs living in the UK and we are honoured that many of them contributed very special items that you can own:
- Míla Fürstová - world-famous artist known for her breath-taking etching paintings, one graced the cover of Coldplay’s Ghost Stories
- Jakub Hrůša - one of the best conductors in the World, a Grammy 2021 nominee for Bohemian Tales in the Best Classical Instrumental Solo category
- Petr Čech - the best goal-keeper of his time, with successful career in Chelsea and Arsenal
- Vladimír Coufal and Tomáš Souček - Czech football players, now playing for West Ham United football club
- Professor Jan Marek - Lead Consultant of Echocardiography and Prenatal Cardiology at GOSH
