Jan Hřebejk, Czech Republic 2009, 100
(Lenka Vlasáková, Martin Huba, Daniela Kolářová, Milan Mikulčík)
Well respected university professor Pavel Josek is at the peak of his career with adoring wife and daughter and due to receive a state honour for his dissident past. But as a TV documentary starts to focus on him, new facts come to life painting a different picture. Comparable to The Lives of Others, Hřebejks gripping study of family secrets, betrayal and reconciliation in the post-Comunist era tackles the subject of Czechs coming to terms with their past. Brilliantly paced and performed, this is one of 2010s must sees.
